Banner Love

Do you like to use banners on your pages? I had admired them for months on other people's scrapbook projects before I tried one myself. Once I did, I was hooked. Now I've been making banners for months and am STILL not over them. There are SO many variations, and this is one of my favorites...a banner bursting with a hodge-podge of overlapping flags. This is also my favorite page thus far with Scraptastic's Faded Jeans kit.

The fun part of banner-making is the arranging and stacking! For this page, I cut a bunch of banner shapes from various papers...some small, some large, some thin, some wide. Then I began my layering, with larger (longer) ones on the bottom and smaller (shorter) ones on the top. I cut the tickets from one of the kit papers to add to my banner, and used a couple of buttons from the kit as well. After assembling the main banner, I had a few extra pieces that were hung underneath the title block to give a little continuity to the page.

I find that making banners is great way to use up all those bits and pieces of paper that are leftover from other projects. In this case, I'd completed a few layouts with my kit, and with my penchant for layering, had cut up many of the papers leaving me with lots of fodder for my banner. All those little scraps didn't go to waste.

It was so much fun creating this page. I guess it's a good thing that I don't scrap chronologically, because every other page would have a banner! But hey, there wouldn't be anything wrong with that, would there?!

Spring Flowers

Happy Wednesday! Michelle here... back to share another project. This weeks project was made with the Faded Jeans Scrapbook kit and add on. Originally, when I saw the sneak of this kit, I immediately thought of pages completely different than what I have been making. Upon receiving my kit and immediately tearing into it, looking through the contents, I changed my mind. The feel of this kit lead me in a different direction. Have you ever done that? See a kit and think of things, then once getting it, go a totally different direction? Today's project is all about spring and time spent together, my little family and I. The photos couldn't be anymore perfect.
See? These were just screaming to be used with this kit. The blues in the photos with the little pop of yellow from my daughter's scarf and my son's shovel, it matches so well. I used a sketch from Jana Eubank. I am just feeling so stuck with all of the 4x6 photos. So, sketches to the rescue. I used the yellow liquid pearls and filled in the centers of the shapes with it. I dug through my stash looking for more flowers, feeling they were the appropriate embellishment being they are planting flowers.
I used the OA sprinkler and colored one of my paper flowers, then taking a glimmer mist and coloring that a pale yellow. I borrowed some letters (again swapping products from the other kit) for my title. I used the clear tiny letters from the Out of Print kit. A punched butterfly with a gem to finish off my title area. Some pen stitching and layered stickers at the bottle of the LO finish it up.

I hope this has inspired you to think of different possibilities you can use your monthly scrapbook kits with.

A Great Color Combo

Like Julie, I also used the Faded Jeans scrapbook kit for a Pinewood Derby photo! How could I not!? Anyone with Cub Scouts will understand what a great kit this is for scout activities. The blue hues and yellow are well matched for their uniform and neckerchief, so I just knew that one of my pages this month would highlight a scouting event! Going through my photos, I found the perfect picture.

On my Pinewood Derby page I mounted the blue patterned paper over yellow cardstock, adding photo corners all around. Next I layered blue and yellow patterned papers above and below a ticket border. Then I adhered several of the kit stickers to chipboard and used them to decorate the top half of my page, leaving room for my title.

The tags here are purely decorative. I love using them this way...sticking out haphazardly and tied with twine.

Blue and yellow is such a great color combination. But you don't have to have a cub scout to find it appealing. Let's see what you can do with these colors.

It's a Card kind of day..

Happy Wednesday! Michelle here. I am back to share with you some more of my May projects.

First of all, aren't May's scrapbook kits fabulous?!!! I could not resist and purchased the other one and both add-ons. I love them both! :) I don't think there are very many left in the store. So, if you would like to get your hands on one, grab it/them now while you can!

Today, I am sharing with you two cards, one from each kit. The first one I made with the Faded Jeans kit. I spotted Kimber McGray's sketch on her blog and decided to play along. This is my take...
I took it pretty literal. I love the layers she had. So I punched the teal paper and the corners of the floral paper and inked them both. Some pen stitching (which was an afterthought after I had my buttons down LOL), threaded buttons with the twine. I tried stacking the middle on top of the others to give it more dimension. The elements sticker sheet had a great friend phrase on one of the stickers... perfect for a card!!
Here is a different angle.

This next one, I made with the Weathered Spring monthly scrapbook kit. I was inspired by something I pinned on Pinterest. Have you jumped onto the Pinterest bandwagon? :) This is what inspired me. I loved the quilt look with the sewing on her papers and the pinwheel in the center. Here is what I came up with.
I pulled out my Slice machine and cut the flower and its shadow, and layered it with some foam adhesive. I dug through my stash of buttons and threaded it with some twine. Lot of pen stitching on my squares I cut into triangles and re-pieced back together.
Here is a different angle for this one as well.

I am not much of  a card maker. I usually don't enjoy making cards, but this time, it was fun. :) I hope I have inspired you some to go out and make a few scrapbook cards.

Happy Scrappin'!

Lombardi Party

Today I'm showing off my first page created with the Scraptastic Faded Jeans scrapbook kit. When our team won the Super Bowl a couple of years ago, the city went nuts, and the partying went on and on. Although I'd completed a couple of layouts and a mini-album about the win, I still had some scrap-worthy photos begging for a page: Coach Sean Peyton driving from the airport waving the Lombardi trophy out the sunroof of his car, Dave Matthews performing at the NFL Kick-off party, and a trio of Saints fans with their homemade trophy hats!

To tie together the disparate photos (from different days and in dissimilar sizes) I arranged and matted them together on a rectangular piece of cardstock.

Then the title was cut with my Cricut, but instead of using the individual letters, I used the negative on my page. (Glimmer Mist in Jack O' Lantern turned cream-colored cardstock to an orange that closely matched the polka dot patterned paper.)

My "trophy" is simply a piece of chipboard covered in tin foil! So easy to do!

Sticker hinges connect a journaling block to the photos. I love how this page, in words and pictures, portrays a little more of the story of those days, that year, and our super team.

Hello there..

Happy May! Can you believe how fast the time is flying by?? I can't believe this year is pushing close to the half way point. Today, I am here to share with you my first Page with the Weathered Spring Scrapbook kit and add-on. There are only a few left!! Grab one quick before they are gone!

I am really enjoying playing with this one. I love the soft color palette. It lends itself very nicely with my black and white photos. Take a look...
I think this is my new favorite page. I just love these photos of my sweet boy. He was giving me all kinds of faces while I took his picture on Valentine's Day earlier this year. I played around with a PageMaps sketch, flipping it to make it work for me. I took the Handsome tag from the Faded Jeans scrapbook kit (yes, I had to get both! :) ) as it was SO fitting for my photos of my boy. I also borrowed a tag from the Faded Jeans kit for some hidden journaling as well. I love that you can mix and match scrapbook kits. ;)
I love the little banner stickers in the monthly scrapbook kit. I popped them up and even gently flipped the tips for some added dimension. The twine and gems finish it off nicely.
Here is my title. I took the gray Liquid Pearls and dotted it along the top. I added the die cut piece for an extra little something for the title, along with some pen stitching around my cardstock.
I finished off my visual triangle with a few more stickers and die cuts.

Well that is it for me today. I am off to spend some quality time with that sweet boy.

Happy Scrappin'!
