My Sweet Baby Boy

Hi! I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter. It's Heather again, and my kids will be going back to school tomorrow. They've really enjoyed their week off and so have I, but I'm dreaming of some scrappy time. I've been focusing on hanging out my kids, so I only made one layout this week. This is the page that I created.

I've been using my Cricut more lately because I found dust on it a while back. Realizing how little I'd used it and how much I paid for it was definitely a shock! As a result, I've been specifically looking for opportunities to use die cuts on my pages. When I saw this photo of Brandon, I knew I wanted to cut a tree out of the wood grain paper that came in the Great Adventures kit

Here is a closer look at the title work. I used the tiny alphabet from the Great Adventures add on to make the title longer and more visually appealing. I layered two flowers underneath the title and I added a brad to anchor it all together.

This month's stamp add on really inspired me. I haven't stamped this much in years. I really enjoy stamping on cardstock and cutting the stamped image out so I can use it to embellish my pages. That's what I did with the beautiful text filled star stamp.

I'm off to enjoy the last day of Easter break. Rumor has it that there will be a sprinkler involved! I hope you all have a wonderfully scrappy day.

One Kit, Many Looks

Believe it or not, this page was crafted using the same Scraptastic kit (Great Adventures) that produced the layout in Thursday's blog post. I love the very different looks I can get with this one amazing kit. Here I left out everything that had red in it (even cutting the My Mind's Eye plaid so that the red stripe was absent). The result is a very calming color scheme and perfect for these beach pics of my youngest son. The candid photo on top tickles me. After a wet morning in the gulf, he's probably licking the salt off his lips!

I also love the weathered look of the background paper. It gives the page a great outdoorsy look to match my pictures. As you can see, I'm still having fun with banners. This time I combined tickets cut from one of the patterned papers with various banner shapes cut from other papers in the kit. The flags and tickets were then adhered to a bit of baker's twine from last month's Be Amazing kit and attached to the page.

Looking at this layout I'm brought back to that white sand, clear water, salt air, and the sound of the surf. Is it only April? Summer is too far away!

Great Adventure Kit

Hello and Happy Friday!

I'm back to share two of my newest layouts using the April Great Adventure Kit and beautifully coordinated add-on!

BE A SHOWOFF

The 'be a showoff' sticker for this page was just perfect! I loved the colors in this kit! I did a lot of layering with the rub-ons. Rub-ons are great to add a little bit of extra texture to a page but keep the dimension down.

Smile, Here's Looking At You

Love the grey, yellow and bit of teal of this layout. As you may know I always try to match my pictures to the colors of the kits. I did add the bakers twine from my stash just to give the page some extra texture.

Here's a closeup of some layering I did. The word stickers are great! I know I'll be using those more and more since I have so many extra left over.

If you didn't  have a chance to see the kit yet, take a peak at it:

and here's that perfectly matching add-on!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

1st April 2012 Blog Challenge

Hi everyone! I'm up with the first challenge for April and it's going to be a DIY (Do-It-Yourself) flower challenge. Each Great Adventure kit comes with shapes from an October Afternoon Sasparilla "flower sack" pack. There are stars, circles and flower shapes in complimentary patterns and colors. The fact that they come in different sizes makes them great for piling on top of each other to create a layered embellishment. My challenge for you is to make your own layered flower, with a minimum of 3 paper layers. You may use kit contents or cut your own shapes from any patterned paper that you wish. Layer three or more shapes, in succeedingly smaller sizes, one on top the other. Finish off with a button or brad and there you have it!

Before layering the papers for the flower on my page, I inked them slightly and curled the edges of the two bottom layers. This helped the papers to stand out against each other and gave my flower added dimension. After adhering my flower layers, I punched holes corresponding to those on the button, threading and tying it on with twine from last month's Be Amazing kit.

These kinds of flowers are a favorite of mine because they are fun, whimsical, and, depending on the papers used, not too girly for boy layouts! To complete the 1st April 2012 Blog Challenge, you will need to embellish a scrapbook page or card with one or more of your handmade layered flowers, using at least three patterned papers. Then use the inlinkz tool below to submit your entry. You have until midnight on May 2, 2012 to submit your entries to all of the April challenges for a chance at the prize drawing.

Happy Day

Happy Wednesday, that is!! I hope your week has started off well.

I just wanted to share one last project I made with the Be Amazing kit and add on. I used some scraps from my pages and made this quick card. The hexagons are all the rage right now. I loved the chip piece that was in the kit. I layered it with some scrap hex paper, the happy day banner. The little bee was the perfect embellishment. :) I punched a few butterflies with the cardstock and patterned paper then added a half pearl from my stash that I had been using on previous projects to finish it off.

I now have another card to add to my stash to send off to a friend. :)

I hope you are having a very happy, scrappy day!! Thank you for stopping by!!
