Happy Day

Happy Wednesday, that is!! I hope your week has started off well.

I just wanted to share one last project I made with the Be Amazing kit and add on. I used some scraps from my pages and made this quick card. The hexagons are all the rage right now. I loved the chip piece that was in the kit. I layered it with some scrap hex paper, the happy day banner. The little bee was the perfect embellishment. :) I punched a few butterflies with the cardstock and patterned paper then added a half pearl from my stash that I had been using on previous projects to finish it off.

I now have another card to add to my stash to send off to a friend. :)

I hope you are having a very happy, scrappy day!! Thank you for stopping by!!

8th Grade

Happy Wednesday! I am here to share my last LO I made with the Be Amazing kit. How fast the years go with our children. You bring home this precious bundle, then blink! They are starting kindergarten. You blink again and they are heading into high school. I know I am going to blink and she will be graduating. I can't believe my oldest has been out of high school six years almost. So I know it will go fast!

This page is about how proud I am of her. She is a great student. No homework battles. Actually, I am not all that involved. I don't need to be, unless she needs help with an assignment.I love how well, again, this matches! The teals in the kit go so well with the photos!!!
I did play around with the OA sprinkler in the kit. I love the spatters!!
I layered the "school rules" banner on top of the MME banner piece. The tags were perfect for anchoring my title.
I love the wordy chip piece. I love the message it says. I used one of my itop punches to punch a sun, if you will then adding a button threaded with some twine. Of course, a little butterfly to finish off the corner.

Not exactly a school kit. But, it worked great for my girl's first day of school photos I took. Thanks for stopping by!

Bermuda Blues and an Extra

Ahhh...the beautiful blue waters of Bermuda! Did you know that there's actually a scientific reason that these waters are such a pretty deep shade of blue? They appear bluer than the water in many other locales due to the low levels of phytoplankton in the waters surrounding the island. Whatever the reason, it looks so inviting and I really wanted to get those delightful colors onto my page. I tried to do just that in a couple of different ways. First, I lightly sprayed my kraft cardstock background with Glimmer Mist (Lake), a beautiful blue-green color that approximated the ocean hues. Next, I chose various papers in shades of blue or blue print from the Scraptastic Club Be Amazing Kit. I cut, inked and layered them on the layout, adding a cluster of embellishments and my title. The ocean's colors were picked up perfectly in the cloud, butterfly, and patterned paper placed directly behind my photo!

What is also amazing and somewhat unusual, is that my husband and I are in the photo together, thanks to whoever took the camera from me and snapped this pic! And that thought brought about the idea of placing a camera embellishment on my page. I found this camera clip art image in the public domain and free for personal use, cut it out with my die-cutting machine, matted it on white paper, cut again by hand and added a little heart. Fun!

Aside from the tiny letter stickers, everything on this page came from the beautiful Be Amazing Kit. I love all the cute embellishments included, as they add so much to the finished page.

Here's another page I completed by layering paper scraps from the kit underneath my photo. Now I have officially used up every piece of patterned paper (except for the tiniest scraps) from the entire kit! Go me!

I hope you have just as much fun using every last bit of your Scraptastic Club kit. It was good to the last drop!

A couple more layouts from Melanie...

Hello, It's Melanie Here!

I had a great time looking at all the great layouts and projects posted here in the last couple of weeks.  These girls are seriously talented!

To add to my gallery I have a few more layouts I created with the March: "Be Amazing kit"

This is me and my family from a couple years ago.... I didn't really put a title on this page but I figured there was enough wording on the chipboard pieces to use as my journaling. Just as long as I have a date on the page I can work with that.

I did some tone on tone on this page. I love this Martha Stewart doily punch. Then flicked some of the October Afternoon sprinkler's. I also used some Studio Calico Mr. Huey's mists too.

For this layout I used Heather's sketch (which I posted below). Make sure you visit her blog too!

I used paper scraps to make my own washi looking tape. I told you I was obsessed with it!

 Here's the sketch I used.

I can't believe March is coming to an end..but that means brand new April kits are around the corner! I'm super excited to start working with it!

Have a great weekend!

Thursday Challenge

Hello everyone! Michelle here. It is my turn to challenge you this month. :)

Spring is in the air here. I love the renewed feeling spring brings. Birds migrating back, things blooming, the pretty colors of new blooms. This month, I had the Be Amazing kit and add-on to work with. Might I just say, it was nothing short of amazing! Don't you agree? I love the blue and yellow combination. It is so pretty. With that being said, I thought it would be fun to do a color challenge.

Here is your color palette to work with. If you don't have the Be Amazing kit, no worries. You can use your your own supplies. :)
(source)

Here is my example.
I love the tags that were in this kit. I also wanted to try my hand at doing something different with them. I love seeing all the different tags around the web. This is my attempt. It feels very springy to me. :) I love how this turned out. I punched some teal cardstock. I cut a piece of patterned paper to fit. The polka dot paper is from my stash, as well as the doily and crinkle ribbon. I loved the big butterflies in the kit and knew I was going to use it. Looking through the chipboard, I had to use the banner piece. Because it kind of glows and to add that visual triangle, I thought the teal word piece was fitting. :) I added a brad for a little extra dimension and texture.

So there you have it!! Now, it is your turn. See what you can come up with with the color palette. I can't wait to see. And if you want to challenge yourself a little more, try and make something you usually don't. It is fun to see what we can do if we push ourselves out of our comfort zone a little.

You have until April 4th, to link your project to the inlinkz tool below. The prize this month is a $20 gift card to Scraptastic Club's Store.

Happy Scrapping!!

Minnehaha Falls

Michelle here. I am excited to share with you another project I made with the Be Amazing kit and add-on. I think this is my favorite kit yet!! I just love the soft, calming color palette. It has fit so well with some family photos that I have scrapped thus far.

This next page is no exception. This kit and photo were a match made in heaven. :) I love how this came together. I love the mix of patterns. I punched the border of my carstock for to add a little extra interest to my page, as well as all the pen stitching.

For the title, I wanted a sun to go with those clouds. Well, who says you can't alter a die cut piece to work for you! :) I took the scalloped die cut piece and trimmed it to look like a sun! Layer a few clouds, add a title and a butterfly, and viola!
When I saw this chip piece I knew I had to use it. The saying went so well with my photo as we were walking a city park one evening last summer. It was truly a lovely day. ;) I added a few half pearls from my stash to finish it off.
More layered die cut pieces with a threaded button and half pearls from my stash to balance out my embellishments.

This kit has been perfect for scrapping my family photos. I hope you are able to find some time to scrap those memories!!!

Sand & Sun

The Be Amazing Kit from Scraptastic Club has the most beautiful blue hues, colors that immediately brought to my mind the water of the Florida panhandle and our vacations to the beach. I was thus inspired to pull out this picture of my youngest and his cousin from one such joyous week of relaxation. The two boys are such good buddies now. Their backs are to the camera, but you can see that one is leaning over to talk to the other, probably saying something like "Did you see that wave I caught!" or "Let's go inside and get a snack!" They always have so much to say to each other, and my journaling expresses the desire of mine to be that "fly on the wall" or "crab in the sand", listening in on their conversation.

Two of the white tags from the kit highlight a horizon scene. Don't you just love those chipboard clouds?! The long over-sized banner on the left side of the page holds the title and gives me more room to play. A simply pieced sailboat fills up the spot, but you could put a flower cluster or other embellishment in its place. If you are verbose, that oversized banner could be a great spot for your journaling as well.

Whenever I scrap pictures of our days at the beach, I begin to dream about our next vacation. Can't wait for those lazy days to be here! Do you take a summer vacation? Winter vacation? Where do you dream of going?

a few projects

TGIF my Scraptastic friends!
This week has flown by...I can't believe it's Friday already. Hubs has been gone all week for work (Napa)...must be nice. My week started off with Bailey having lice...totally has grossed me out. I don't like bugs of any kind. So that's been my week, how has your week been?

Today I'm sharing a couple of projects that I finished up over the weekend.
First up is The Twister Champ

I used the Celebrate Life Kit and Add-On for this layout...the pictures from a sleepover that we had weeks ago were perfect for this kit! I hand cut all of the banners on the bottom and then matted them with white cardstock so they stood out better on the black cardstock. I painted the white thickers that were in the add-on with a paint dauber from a past kit...the white just wasn't working for me.

Next up is a layout that I made using the Be Amazing Kit and Add-On.
Be Amazing

To start, I splattered my kraft cardstock with Miss Mary Mack Sprinkler, Atmosphere Mister Huey and White Mister Huey. I matted my patterned papers with the teal cardstock from the kit. And I totally stole Melanie's idea of tearing the chipboard pieces apart from the chipboard sheet in the add-on...I really like all of those pieces much better once they weren't so thick. Oh, and the little kraft butterfly stickers...I painted the edges of the smaller butterfly with a teal paint dauber from a past kit and then layered them...love how they turned out.

And last up is a little Birthday card that I made with the Celebrate Life Kit
Happy Birthday

I hand cut the banners and matted them on black cardstock and then white cardstock. I then punched some holes in the top so I could run my twine through them, made some bows and voila....a cute little birthday card.

I'm hoping to spend a little time in my scraproom this weekend...fingers crossed!
I will have the first sneaks of the April Kits next weekend...I'm just waiting on my last box of scrappy goodies. I hope that you all have a fabulous weekend!

Little Boy

Happy Humpday! Michelle here. I am back to share another LO I made with the Be Amazing kit and add-on.

This kit is one of my favorites, I think. Well, for now anyway.. until the next one comes out. ;) I just love this color palette and these MME papers!!! Gorgeousness. This time, I made a LO with an old photo my husband and I found while going through his father's belongings this past summer. I am guessing my father in law wasn't very old. I used the sketch from My Minds Eye.
I took cue from Melanie and pulled the top layer off of the journal chip piece. :) I just love the layered stickers!
I cut some of the doilies out in the one sheet and added it along with the chip piece. The sticker letters are from my stash.
I popped up the playful piece. That piece just fits my father in law's personality. He was playful... an unmerciful tease. I added a few pieces to balance out my corner.

Thank you for stopping by. I hope wherever you are, the weather is as nice there as it has been here! It's a rarity to have high 60's temps here in west central Wisconsin this time of year.

DIY Chevron Stamp and LO

Chevrons are everywhere these days! Did you know you can make your very own chevron stamp to use with acrylic paint? This is Madeline here, new to the Scraptastic Design Team, and today I'm going to show you exactly how I made my own priority box "stamp" and used it on the layout below:

I love using kraft cardstock as a background, but first tried to liven it up a bit with splatters of yellow and black paint. Hmmm...it needed something more. After an unsuccessful search around the house for bubble wrap, I came upon the idea for a chevron design and made my own stamp. My Scraptastic Club kit had arrived just a few days before in a priority box, and it was still sitting right beside my workspace. I tore off one flap and peeled back the inside layer of paper to reveal the corrugated surface underneath. Oh yeah...those stripes would be perfect!

Using a trimmer, I cut two pieces from the flap at opposite angles and trimmed them to the same length with my scissors. Placed together, glued to a separate sheet of cardboard, they would form my "stamp". A loop of paper adhered to the top would make lifting the painted stamp off the paper that I was stamping a bit easier...with less mess to my fingers...and less likely to be dropped back onto my page in an unwanted position. (Been there, done that.)

To use, brush a generous amount of acrylic paint onto the stamp and press onto your background paper. Repeat as desired. Here's how it looks on my practice piece of cardstock:

Obviously, these "stamps" can't be washed off. When finished, simply dab any excess paint onto a paper towel and let the remaining paint dry on the cardboard. It might be good for a couple of uses, but we know where to find more of the raw materials used to make another. ;)

Here is the page I created with my makeshift stamp. It is probably my favorite layout thus far with the Be Amazing Kit.

And now for a closer look at a few of the details of my page. As you can see, my love for banners continues. Circles cut from patterned paper were folded in half over twine and strung across the page not once, but twice.

In creating my title, the chipboard letters were sanded down in preparation for an application of paint, but once sanded, I LOVED the bare, distressed look and ended up leaving them alone! Scanning and printing the boarding pass/tickets accomplished two things: I was able to fiddle with the color and turn the bright Christmas green tickets into ones that better matched the colors of my layout, and now that they are printed on acid-free paper, they are archival and safe for my scrapbook. Pretty cool!

If you decide to make your own priority box "stamp", please share your creations in the Scraptastic Club members gallery or Facebook page. I'd love to see what you do!

hello.....

Hello!

I'm Melanie, a new member to the Scraptastic Design Team. I have guest designed in the past but this is my official design team hello to you all and my first blog post!

I thought I would share a little of my thought process behind the way I scrapbook. We all have our different ways and styles which make each of our pages unique. The first thing I do after receiving the kit is  I spread it all out to get a feel of the kit: colors, theme, etc. I always match my pictures to the colors of the paper or paper colors to my pictures--sometimes this is a process all in itself. I usually print my photos at home so I can edit them and print them in different sizes.  Now I'll show you what I'm talking about and you'll notice it in my layouts.

I have completed 4 layouts with the Be Amazing kit, today I'll share 2 of them and a few details.

Celebrate

One thing I was having a problem with were the bigger pieces of chipboard, they just looked so awkward on my pages. I actually called this layout done but ended up going back in to add more to the upper left corner. I decided to rip apart the chipboard pieces (the 2 you see in the lower picture-Celebrate and the journal piece.) I used just the decorative top part and tossed the bulky chipboard. It fit and looked better on my page, then I was able to overlap it without the bulk and add a brad and sticker over the top to finish it off.

Enjoy the Journey

Some tid bits on this layout. Again you notice the wording on the biggest picture, "Enjoy the Journey," just like the last layout I tore apart the chipboard piece and used only the top layer and tossed the chipboard. Then I  tore the edges so it looked like washi tape. (btw, I love washi tape) You'll notice I picked the colors from my daughter's outfit to match my papers and embellishments to match my theme. I used the October Afternoon Sprinkler's on my page, (actually every page I created). I don' t mist it on, rather remove the sprayer from the bottle and flick it to get the bigger drips on my pages. (and btw, I now love OA sprinkler's too!)

I hope I was able to inspire you a bit. I'll be back soon with the other 2 layouts!

And tell me, were you one of lucky ones able to pick up the Be Amazing kit? I'd love for you to link me to your layouts. I think it's so fun to see the different pages we can all come up with using the same kit!

A Special Photo

Hi everyone! This is Madeline, Guest Designer for March, and today I’d like to share my first project with the Be Amazing Kit, along with a couple of techniques that I used in its creation. This picture was taken a few months ago at my niece's wedding...my dad in his spiffy suspenders, red boutonniere pinned to the strap. I wanted to do something unique for this special photo.

First off, I was thrilled to see 2 sheets of Kraft cardstock included with this kit. A favorite product of mine, it makes a great background paper, combining easily with just about any color scheme. BUT, I thought I’d do something different with one of the sheets, and cut a few shapes...birds and leaves, elements that might work well for the page(s) I was (half)planning.

The swallow image is a free printable from the Graphics Fairy. The birds on a line are a free download from Michelle. The free Honeycomb svg file can be found on Heather's blog, Miracles Momma Designs. (Source info for the leaf cluster is unavailable.)

PLEASE NOTE: You don’t have to own a die-cutting machine to make use of these images. Simply print in draft mode (or using a light color of ink) in reverse on the kraft cardstock, cut out with scissors, then flip for use on your project.

After cutting out my images I inked them all over with Nick Bantock Van Dyke Brown and a Tim Holtz blending pad. This helped them contrast with the My Mind’s Eye Kraft Unique patterned paper. Here’s my before, after, and how they look with the patterned paper. Sweet!

And then I rethought the swallows, deciding to print them on the grey/white houndstooth pattern, ink, and pop-dot them on top of the kraft for added dimension… like the layered stickers that came with the kit! Yep…I like that much better.

NOW, here's a fun little technique for making flowers out of baker's twine. Cut out small circles from adhesive backed paper. (I recycled the leftover packaging from the kit’s layered stickers.) Press and wind twine from the center out, until the entire circle is filled. Add a little additional liquid adhesive to secure the end and voila!

Here's my finished page:

Pssst...see those little flags peeking out from under the heart on the upper left side of the page. They are cut outs from the tear strip, you know...the part that shows what's on the b-side of the patterned paper. There's a use for everything!

Thanks for looking!
